Nestled in the foothills of the Dandenong Ranges in Melbourne is the narrow gauge heritage railway known as Puffing Billy. The line was opened in 1900 to serve the local farming and timber industries but closed in 1953 after to a severe landslide … today, and for the last over 50 years the line has been run by the Puffing Billy Preservation Society made up of predominately volunteer members.

Puffing Billy runs from Belgrave in the Southern Foothills through the hills and gullies of lush forest to Gembrook, with a few stopping points on the way there. The Society aims to preserve and restore the line to the glory days of it’s first three decades of operation. Today it is one of the most popular steam railways in the world attracting visitors from all overseas and the world.

Southern Star Coaches can often be seen taking guests in to the Dandenong Ranges and at one of the historic stations along the Puffing Billy line.
